Catch typos before you hit send

Yes. The download, on-device checks for spelling, word spacing and typos, the review window, Paste and the default character are all free, with no account to create. You only need a subscription for AI features.

Nowhere, by default. It leaves your computer only through two things you turn on yourself: sharing text snippets to improve checking, and subscription AI features. Only users 14 and older can turn them on. With AI features on, masked text passes through our server to the AI provider we use (Anthropic or OpenAI), and our server doesn’t store it. Section 3 of the Privacy Policy explains how long the provider keeps it (usually deleted within 30 days).

No. Minikong watches key presses to know when you pause and to catch its shortcuts. In apps where it can’t read the text box, it rebuilds what you type from your keystrokes, only to look for typos. That text is kept only in Minikong’s memory and is cleared when you switch fields or apps, press Enter or pause; check results disappear within 5 minutes. It’s never saved or sent anywhere, and never used for AI features or snippets. It doesn’t rebuild text from keystrokes in password fields, secure input, password managers, certificate or one-time-code windows, banking, brokerage or meeting apps, the address bar, remote desktops or virtual machines. In browsers, it does this only in the hidden input boxes of web apps that draw their own text, like Figma or Google Docs, and in full-screen apps only while you’re typing in them.

On a Mac, it asks for two. Accessibility lets it read the text box you’re typing in and swap in the fixed sentence. Input Monitoring tells it when you type and pause and powers shortcuts like Control+Option+S. In apps whose text box it can’t read, Input Monitoring also lets it rebuild text from your keystrokes (including whether you’re typing in Korean or English). Windows works the same way, but it has no permission prompt for this, so there’s nothing to allow. It doesn’t use Screen & System Audio Recording.

Most apps you write in, like KakaoTalk, Slack, Mail, Notes and your browser. In apps that draw their own text, such as Figma, and in terminals, it checks your keystrokes for typos only; click Copy fix (교정문 복사) to copy the corrected sentence, with nothing saved or sent. Fields that look like recipient or form fields may be skipped to protect personal information. On Windows, some apps such as the new Outlook aren’t checked yet, and keystroke reading doesn’t work with the new Windows 11 Korean IME yet.

Turn on Fast mode (패스트 모드) in Settings → Check (검사), and the character hides and the menu bar icon (the taskbar icon on Windows) lets you know instead. It checks as you type, and the icon turns red when it finds a typo. On Windows, if the icon is hidden under ^, drag it onto the taskbar. Even without Fast mode, the character moves out of your pointer’s way by default.

No. Minikong only shows what to fix. Your text changes only when you click Paste (복붙하기), and even then nothing is sent. If you opened the review window by quickly pressing Command+C (or Ctrl+C) twice, one press of Enter right after it opens works the same way: it pastes the fix and doesn’t send it. If you’ve edited the text since the check, it won’t overwrite your changes.

Yes. It can suggest a wrong fix or miss a mistake, so take a quick look before you send. You can report a miss with the Error (오류) button in the review window. If you haven’t turned on snippet sharing, it asks first, and a masked snippet is sent only if you agree.

Yes, once you turn it on. Check language (검사 언어) starts as Korean, so choose English or Auto under Settings → General, or right-click the menu bar icon. Auto treats text as English only when it’s clearly English; otherwise it checks it as Korean. The app’s interface is in Korean for now.

Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 26 or later, and PCs running 64-bit Windows 11 or Windows 10 (version 1809 or later). There’s no Intel Mac version yet, and it can’t be installed on phones or tablets.

In the app, go to Settings → Subscription & AI (구독·AI) and click Subscribe monthly (월 구독하기) or Subscribe yearly (연 구독하기). Checkout opens in your browser, and your subscription turns on as soon as you’re back in the app. It renews monthly or yearly until you cancel. To cancel, use Manage subscription (구독 관리) in the same place; that stops the next renewal, and you keep access until the end of the period you paid for. You can ask for a refund within 14 days of a payment (see the Refund Policy).
